After forming the Bearpit Improvement Group we set out on a consultation exercise, which consituted of a display of posters within the Bearpit asking for views and input from members of the public and users of the Bearpit.
We received a fantastic response through e-mail and web responses.
We have now opened our consultation for the walkway scheme and other improvements we wish to make within the Bearpit and we are looking for your response! Please help us to make the Bearpit a better space for all by participating in our survey. Background information to the consultation can be seen on our consultation info page, with detailed information about the options available on our consultation options page.
UWE provided us a grant of £1300 to start us off! This will be used to provide:
- Display/ sign boards
- Table and chairs
- A giant chess set
We have received a grant of 23,000 from the Arts Council - this will be used to proivde art installations within the Bear-pit and the upkeep of the existing boards. We are very grateful to the Arts Council for assisting us in our goal to maintain innovative installations within the Bearpit.
Groundwork have provided us with a £200 grant which will be used to provide gardening tools for the upkeep of the plant beds.
We have applied for National Heritage Lottery funding for the Installation of Historical boards documenting the history of the Bearpit. We have received a match funding bid, so we need to work hard to raise funding, which will be matched by the Heritage Lottery fund.
We are looking to obtain more grants which will help us further the improvements in the Bear-pit. If you have any ideas or could help by holding your own fundraising event for us please get in touch.
We have been working with the council to make some improvements to basic structural aspects of the Bearpit, such as improving the uneven surfaces, resurfacing the ramps and install wi-fi technology. The Bear-pit footprints are now also being placed around the area in various colours!
The walkway scheme we proposed last year is now set to go through, it was voted through by Bristol City Council cabinet in July. We are looking forward to working in partnership with Bristol City Council on this.
